Solar basics
Do solar lights work during brownouts?
Yes. Solar lights run from their own battery, which the solar panel recharges during the day. They are independent of the power grid, so a brownout does not affect them.
Do solar products still charge on cloudy or rainy days?
Yes, but more slowly. Panels charge fastest in direct sunlight. On overcast days they collect less energy, so expect a shorter run time at night. Placement matters more than season: keep the panel out of shade and facing open sky.
Does a 300W solar light consume 300 watts?
No. For solar lighting, the wattage in a model name is the manufacturer’s series designation, not the actual electrical draw. The number to compare between lights is the lumen (lm) figure, which measures real light output. Our spec tables list lumens wherever the catalog provides them.
What do lumens mean?
Lumens (lm) measure how much light a lamp actually produces. A higher lumen figure means a brighter light. Two lights with the same wattage label can have very different lumen outputs.
What is LiFePO4 and why does it matter?
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is the battery type used in most BOSCA solar lights. Compared with older battery types, it lasts more charge cycles and tolerates heat better, which suits the Philippine climate.
What does IP65 or IP67 mean?
IP ratings describe protection against dust and water. IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it is fine outdoors in the rain. IP67 additionally survives short submersion. Outdoor BOSCA lights carry ratings like these on their listings.
What is the difference between solar and AC street lights?
Solar street lights power themselves through a panel and battery, so they need no wiring to the grid and cost nothing to run. AC street lights plug into mains power (220V in the Philippines) and have no battery, which suits locations that already have a reliable grid connection.
What is a pure sine wave inverter, and do I need one?
An inverter converts battery power (DC) into the AC power appliances use. A pure sine wave inverter produces the same smooth waveform as the grid, which sensitive electronics such as TVs, computers, and inverter-type refrigerators prefer. Basic resistive loads like simple bulbs are less picky.
Buying BOSCA products
Does BOSCA install solar systems?
Not yet. BOSCA currently supplies products only, so for street lights or home setups you would work with your own electrician or installer. We plan to offer installation services in the future.
Why do run times show a range, like 6 to 18 hours?
Run time depends on how much charge the panel collected that day, the brightness mode you use, and the age of the battery. The ranges in our tables come from the manufacturer’s catalog and reflect typical conditions, not a guarantee.
